On axis holography by random particles encoding

2012

A method for eliminating the unwanted terms in an on axis hologram is presented. In this method, free randomly distributed nanoparticles are in proximity to the object and their Brownian motion encodes the spatial features of the object in the recorded hologram. The nanoparticles are localized and a decoding pattern is calculated for each frame. This decoding pattern is then used to remove the reference beam and the conjugate beam in the reconstruction of the hologram.

Slowing down of light pulses using backward-wave four-wave mixing with local response

2015

The slowing down of light pulses is achieved using backward-wave four-wave mixing in a medium with local response. A Bi12TiO20 crystal with an external dc field is used in the experiment as a proof-of-concept material. The delay and shape transformation of output pulses are studied and compared for the transmitted and phase conjugate channels. It is shown that the phase conjugate pulse achieves a longer delay under typical experimental conditions with equal intensities of the pump beams. This advantage of the phase conjugate beam is especially pronounced for short pulses with half-widths smaller than the response time of the medium. The agreement of the experimental results with numerical c…

An analytical solution for multilayered beams subjected to ends loads

2014

An alternative model for multilayered beams undergoing axial, shear and bending loads applied at the beam's ends is developed. It is based on a layer-wise kinematics, which inherently fulfills the equilibrium equations at layer level and the interface continuity conditions. This kinematics is suitably expressed by introducing a set of generalized variables representative of the beam midline displacement field, which become the primary variables of the problem governing equations. As a consequence, the proposed beam model exhibits the computational characteristics of an equivalent single layer model and possesses the accuracy of layer-wise beam theories, as well. Closed form solutions for di…
